Uganda & Kenya Hope Children's Home, Hopeland Junior School, & Spoken Word Pastor Dave Johnson will be leading a team of five adults and five teenagers to Uganda and Kenya this June. In Uganda, who will assist Arthur and Lydia at Hope Children's Home, an orphanage our fellowship has supported for many years. Their needs are many — repairs, bedding, mattresses, and especially water. Due to city water cuts, we're looking into drilling a borehole, which, though more expensive than digging, provides cleaner, more reliable water. We also plan to complete the Calvary Hall at Hopeland Junior School — a much-needed space for chapels, exams, and community gatherings. While there, we’ll teach Bible stories and introduce the staff to the Simply the Story methods, with the goal of conducting a full workshop in the future. After Uganda, our team will head to Kakuma, in northern Kenya, to assist the Spoken Word Center. During the day, we'll travel in pairs with translators to share the Gospel in Turkana villages. At night, we’ll show The God Story and Jesus films. We also hope to launch a goat program to help impoverished families rebuild their herds after devastating losses. We intend to purchase about 100 - 200 goats. This will allow us to give each small village about 10 goats to share and raise. With no herds to sell there is no food and no money. The Spoken Word center has continually tried to supply some food but it is not enough. We hope that the goat program will be the beginning of some relief.
